The new hami.sh

The new http://hami.sh After spending a good two days working on it; the design for hami.sh is finally ready to go.

I purchased the hami.sh domain a few months ago (.sh stands for Saint Helena, if you’re curious). And for the longest time it simply redirected to my blog.

Now, I’ve always envisioned a sort of central point for my web presence, somewhere I can send people instead of naming off a bunch of web sites I use — my newly acquired domain was the perfect candidate.

The whole web site came together quite well. In the past I would start toying with some designs in Photoshop, but eventually become discouraged, and toss everything. A designer is always his/her own worst critic.

But in the end, I knew I wanted something simple. So I focused more on the layout and type; I put together the header you see now, and from there slowly produced the rest of the site.

I’ll likely be touching it up as time goes by. Tweaking some of the colors, and layout. But overall, I’m very happy with how it turned out. I hope you like it too.

wow. What a great job; simple, legible and great for promotion, self or otherwise.

I love the grunged up texture because it’s subtle and of course I dig the js color switch at the bottom for the compulsive clickers like me. Congrats.

The design looks great. You just can’t go wrong with anything that begins with “the life and times of”…

Great redesign, also like the color switch. Are you also changing the blog? Good luck.

Love the texture! Are you going to give all your pages (blog etc) the same style?

    Hamish,

Looks great. Really like the typography; makes me want to stay a while. And now I know what the “stu” in “hamstu” stands for. :)

I can’t wait either. Of course I’ll have to wait for a little while, as I have some other projects to work on. But it’s high on my to-do list. :)

Nice design, although i laughed with tears in my eyes when i read “Hamish is a designer/programmer hybrid from Montreal, Canada.

He’s passionate about typography, web standards, and writing.”

    Designer/Programmer Hybrid - Hybrid ?! :))

Canada - “I’m not your friend buddy! ” - South Park (just kidding)

Good luck with the work you little hybrid.

Hey bro, I honestly like your site (hami.sh) but I have a question. You say you’re “passionate” about “web standards”. Passionate? You’d give your life for them? Just kidding. But I am really curious what’s up with so many designers being hung up on “standards”. By standards do you mean passing W3 validation check? Imagine I’m a prospective client and I come to your page and I see “web standards” and I think to myself, “dude, I didn’t know about web standards, I must be stupid or this kid is just a geek”. That’s what I would think anyway.
Well other then that I really like your site.

Thanks for your comment mate. I don’t really mean the W3C check so much (I’ll admit, I haven’t run it in some time…) — so perhaps the word is something of a misnomer in this case. For me, web standards essentially means keeping the code clean, semantic, and usable.

I also see what you mean from a client perspective, I could certainly do some explaining there. (Perhaps a link to an explanation of sorts…)

Anyways, thanks for the genuine feedback. I’m glad you like the site. ;)

I really like your site design, I saw it on the I Love Typography blog.

As much as I like your site … I like the Flyers more … I’m from PA! :)
